| Business Solutions in Java |
|
Java is currently my primary programming language in which I help my clients with business solutions. My clients are mainly production companies in the Netherlands. This is the reason that the rest of my website is in Dutch. They use different ERP-packages for their business processes. While helping them working efficient with their software I discovered in general they have the same problems and I was giving them the same solutions with programming in their ERP package as measure work.
I started my company in 2001. Before 2003 I was working with clients which use the ERP package ISAH. I didn't like doing the same trick over and over again, so I developed a standard package for the common problems of my customers. The name of this package is called WTell and is now evolved to a JSF-implementation on Apache Tomcat. At this moment 20 companies are using this package which provides them the solutions they want for a fair price. In practice it's sometimes difficult to convince customers to invest in my package, because they believe they are unique, but after a while they learn the benefits and also my standard package can be customized easily
With standardizing my measure work I made the decision for to use Java as a programming language. In 2006 I started using the JSF-framework for my application. During that year I also decided to take part in different communities as the CodeRanch, which was named the JavaRanch , and the NLUG (Dutch Java UserGroup) in which I will gather insight and information over new developments in Java by attending workshops and reading the forums.
Besides programming I'm also advise my clients in the way their business process could be organized and I chair improvement projects. In this role I talk to customers give them education, instruction and tell other parties what to do and when.
The technical, functional and/or a managerial role for my clients is my great strength. There is no communication border between the different roles, which will normally complicate the implementation. On the other side I have to split myself mostly over my clients which is sometimes difficult, because you can never concentrate long over one project. This is also an advantage for my customers, because they will have quick wins and small projects which could add up to a big improvement. The best way is to have a total vision and make small steps which each gains a profit toward it. The world changes fast so today's good vision will lead you to tomorrow's big hell. By making the small steps you can always change your walking along the way or to decide to stop halfway.
In the last years I picked up study again besides helping my customers and making them happy. Today it is my believe that it's important to gather some certificates in which I will gain good theoretical knowledge. Also these certificates will give new clients a good understanding of my abilities, because they didn't get this understanding in practice which is in the end more important. For this reason I have now some Java-certificates (SCJP, SCWCD, SCJWSD) and certificates for managing (Prince2, ITIL(Foundation, Practitioner, Manager)) and some Dutch-methods for testing(TMAP) and application control(ASL,BISL).
Currently I prepare myself for SCBCD between my work for my customers and I'm reading and setting up different projects with the use of Six-Sigma , which is a method for organizing your business processes for being more efficient.
Working hard and also to study don't give me much time for other fun and important things in life in which I like to play badminton and to do nice things with my son and family which is in the end the most important, but you could easily forget.
So I hope to help you and also to learn from you at the CodeRanch and the NLJUG.
Also you could read some manuals for setting up some solutions in Java
Greetings and have fun with Java ,
Remko Strating
